What i have learned:

I have learned how there are many aspects that affects the way we see an image and by changing one pictures file information the picture can look very different and unclear. I have learned that buying a high megapixel camera doesn’t always mean the picture will turn out better. In this lesson i have learned the true meaning of mega pixels, and how different mega pixel pictures are very different looking.

TEKS:

(C) use graphic software to create and modify images;

(5) The student describes the importance of quality and how it is measured in computer technology. The student is expected to:

Use a picture or art software to invent and fix pictures.

The student talks about how important making things well is and how it is shown in computer technology.

For the first part of the break, i spent a week in cancun, Mexico. cancun1
I enjoyed the heat and the beautiful beaches they had there. cancun-mexico-beach1
While i was there, my family and i took a boat ride to a near by island where we got to shop in these antique shops. The food was great and the city was interesting.

After returning from Mexico, i had a couple of days to relax and hangout with friends before leaving again to New York city. On new year’s eve i flew up to New York City to visit some family. new-york-city
There was a big difference in the temperature in Mexico and New York. I was freezing walking around the streets of New York city. One of the nights in the city i went to Times Square. time-square
I really enjoyed my beak!

Notes from class discussion:

1. Save everything to H-drive

2. Save everything in a folder!

3. Always name the folder so you know what’s in it

4. Search engines-Google, Yahoo, Ask.com, dogpile.com

5. Computer hardware – physically records s stuff on aluminum disks coated with iron called a hard drive

6. Computer uses lazer to record info on a c-d

7. Always use letters, numbers, or underscores in a file name

8. NO punctuation in a file name!

9. History of computers – time line( Charles Babbage, colusses/inneak)

10. URL- web address

11. use a subject- so people will know what the email is about

12. s-drive(shared drive)

13.CC- carbon copy

14. BCC-blind carbon copy

15. different apps/programs ( word, power point)

16.  General categories: internet, hardware , parts of the computer search engines, history of the computer, E-mail, network resources

17. Organize files!

18. ask.com give you a limited number of websites when searching

18. Google is the best search engine to use

20. chain e-mails are very bad because they get spread around and they can bring viruses to a persons computer

December 5, 2008-Topics for book

December 5, 2008 by dara252

Book 1-High-Tech IDs:

8. Each section is talking about a specific form of identification, however that main topic is biometric.

9. The book is mostly about currant biometrics, but there is a section about the history of biometrics. The most recent date in the history section is 1998.

10. There is specific technological developments having to do with fingerprint scanners and other technology that helps identify a person by their voice, fingers, DNA and others. I believe one of the most recent date that is mentioned is about a company that developed the first commercial biometric system based on the vein patterns in the hand.

11. chapter one: what is biometrics?- this chapter gives an overall view of biometrics and talks about the beginnings of biometrics and the basic tools.

chapter two:What makes you unique?- this chapter talks about how you can identify a person by what they are made of- DNA.

Chapter 3: Putting Biometrics to work-  this chapter talks about how people use biometrics to do their jobs, for example the police.

chapter4- The hand as a biometric tool- this chapter talks about fingerprint scanners and how biometric tools are specific to hands.

chapter 5- The eyes and face as biometric tools- this chapter talks about Retinal scanning, Iris scanning, Facial recognition and growing use of facial recognition.

Chapter6- Behavioral traits as biometric  tools- this chapter talks about voice patterns, voice verification, and speech recognition.

Chapter 7- DNA Finger printing-this chapter talks about what is DNA fingerprinting and how it has been used as a biometric tool.

chapter8- Challenges facing Biometric systems- this chapter talks about that failure of biometric devices and what happens when they don’t work.

Chapter 9- The future of biometrics- this chapter talks about the future of biometric and what is as in store for the next ten years.

12. There are various amounts of new hardware listed in this book, however one of the newest development listed in the book is in 2003 a tiny, cheap fingerprint scanner.

13. I believe their are some inaccurate information because in the last chapter, the author discusses many new developments and goes about ten years in the future to say what they will be like then, therefore his predictions could be wrong.

14. Topics:

Biometrics- currant

DNA- currant

Putting Biometrics to work- currant

Hand as a biometric tool- currant

The eyes and face traits as Biometric tools- currant

Behavioral Traits as biometric tools- Currant

DNA fingerprinting- currant

Examining You own fingerprints- currant

fingerprint Scanners- currant

15. This book is fairly new and supplies a plethora of information about biometrics and has a large section about DNA and cell division, which is important information. Therefore, i think that this book should remain in the library.

Book 2:  visitors from Outer space

8. The entire book is mainly about the appearences or occurances of visitors from other world on to planet earth.

9. The book is historical in that it talks about the the hisotry of viisiors from outer space in past  years. The most recent date that this book covers is 1979.

10. There isn’t a specifice software that is discusses in the book.

11. ch. 1- Ancient visitors?: This chapter talks about the prehistoric people depicting images and realizing strange, unearthy ceatures.

ch.2. -Early UFOs: This chapter talks about people discovering and witnissing UFOs in history.

ch.3- Close encounters of the first kind: This chapter talks about the the first encounter of UFOs.

ch.8-The Bermuda Triangle: This chapter talks about the strange occurances in The Bermuda Triangle.

ch.9- The Great Lakes Triangle: This chapter talks about the strange ocurances in The Great Lakes Triangle.

ch.10-Is there life on other planets?: This chapter talks about the future of Visitors from outerspace and possibility of life on outer space.

12. Since the book is mainly about the the history of visitors from outerspace , the book doesn’t really mention new software or hardware.

13. Since the book is mostly historical, the information is focused on the past and from i can tell it mostly correct.

14. Ten Topics:

1.UFOs- Currant

2.Bermuda Triangle- currant

3.The Great Lakes Triangle- Obsolete

4.Ancient Visitors- obsolete

5.Space noises- obsolete

6.Life on other Planets-currant

7. Airforce and UFOs-obsolete

8. UFOs coming to Earth- currant

9. Strange Space unearthly creatures-currant

10. Future of space creatures- currant

15. I believe this book be retained in the library because even though it’s a little dated, the information in the book is about the history visitors from outerspace which is an important and interesting topic.

Book 3:  The Respiratory System:

8. The entire book is about the Respiratory system.

9. There is a section of the book about the history of the respiratory system. The most recent date that the history covers is the 1980s.

10. There are medical developments mentioned in the book, but there isn’t any specific software or hardware mentioned.

11. ch. 1- The Breath of life: This chapter talks about realizations and explorations of the respiratory system.

ch.2- How living things breathe: This chapter talks about the basics of how things breathe and how the respiratoy system works.

ch.5-Where the action is: This chapter talks about the red blood cells, where the action is.

ch.6-What can go wrong?: This chapter talks about the risks and the problems with the respiratory system.

ch.7-Guarding the Breath of Life: This chapter talks about how to keep the respiratory system working well, healthy and safe.

ch.8-On the Horizon: This chapter talks about the future of fixing and repairing respiratory system.

12. The The developements are all medical developments, there aren’t any new softwares mentioned in the book.

13. The newest development isn’t clearly stated in the book, however many new surergies and ways to keep people alive are listed in the book. The most recent sugery the book talks about is the “Domino Surgery” in 1987.

14. Ten Topics:

1.Respiraotry system- currant

2. Lungs- currant

3. Red Blood cells-currant

4. human respiratory system- currant

5. history of respiratory system- currant

6. iron lung- currant

7. problems with the respiratory system- currant

8. Breathing- currant

9. Asthma- currant

10. other mammel’s respiratory systems- currant

15. I think this book should retain in the library because it has a whole lot of important and useful information about the respiratory system .

December 4, 2008- Three recent facts

December 4, 2008 by dara252

Book 1: High-Tech IDs

Three most recent facts: The Future of biometrics

In 2001, sales of fingerprint-scanning systems alone are expected to reach 1$ billion

By the end of 2002, state officials predict that a total of 2.850 people will have been removed from the fingerprint-scanning system

The smallest fingerprint scanner in 1994 was the size of a telephone and cost 2,000, however in 2003, the same device will probably sell for about $15.

Book 2: Visitors from Outer Space

In May 1973 a young woman in North Carolina saw a cigar-shaped object floating in the night sky as she was driving along a well-traveled road.

A leading British magazine , New Scientist, rote in 1977 and why people from outer space would want to visit Earth?

In 1977 a study was conducted and concluded that was the first step in a new NASA project called SETI (Search for extraterrestrial intelligence)

Book 3:The Respiratory System

In 1987 a dramatic “domino surgery” showed just how useful long transplants can be.

The prevention of genetic lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis was advanced in 1987 when scientists at California”s integrated Genetics found the genetic marker -the piece of the cell’s inner machinery.

The transplanting of lungs alone is still in its early stages, but in Toronto, Dr. Joel Cooper of the Toronto General Hospital has done more then a half a dozen such surgeries, two of his patients have survived since 1983.

Email-quiz:

1. Should: Your should always have something in your subject line so the recipient knows what the email is about and knows whether or not to read it.

2. Shouldn’t: You should never leave all the email addresses when you forward an email because that would be advertising people’s email addresses to anyone you forward the email to who might abuse those email addresses.

3. Shouldn’t: You Shouldn’t always reply to everyone who has received the same email because it could be giving people your email address that might not know.

4. Should: You should use the carbon copy field to send a copy to someone who doesn’t need to respond to your email because it makes them aware of the email you want them to read and they can keep it as a record.

5. Shouldn’t: You shouldn’t reply to all when your email address is in the “BCC” field of an email you receive because your email address would be hidden.

6. Should. You should always include your email address and your name in the body of an email because it allows the recipient of the email to know who is emailing the person and they know how to contact you.

7. Shouldn’t:You shouldn’t send an email to everyone in your address book, because that email will give away the email addresses to all the recipients.

8. Shouldn’t: You shouldn’t send an email and expect supernatural things to occur because you sent it to many people. In reality you are just spreading a false chain email and nothing will happen to you no matter what you do with the email.

9. Shouldn’t: You shouldn’t send 30 pictures of cute puppies to everyone at your workplace or in your address book because you are publishing photos that can probably be found on the internet without the annoying email.

10. Should: You should protect people’s privacy by using the BCC field because that way you are respecting their privacy and not giving out there email address to people who shouldn’t have it.
