My friend in the photo is named Katie Thomas, and she was born on April 3, 1990 in California but later moved to Houston Texas when she was six. Katie has a close relationship with her three younger brothers. Her favorite hobbies include hanging out with her friends, and writing! She already has had the great opportunity to write articles for a variety of new reporting and newspapers.   Her mother is a successful lawyer and her father is a doctor. Currently she is finishing up her senior year of high school. She exceeded many of her academic goals and she has won many writing competitions. Since Katie has been involved in community organizations and helping the environment she wants to join the peace corp and help the world. She hopes to live somewhere in Africa for five months and then travel to India to help people living in those places. After her year of traveling, Katie is going to go to a prestigious college and study journalism. However, she also has an interest in becoming some kind of doctor so she is pondering the possibility of attending medical school after college. Katie’s a smart, hardworking girl who wants to take any opportunity give her. She is a trustworthy friend that will always make you smile.

France is the city love, passion and is filled with people who adore their country. France has great culture and beautiful sites, however they are currently concerned with their environment issues. France has forest damage from acid rain, air pollution from industrial and vehicle emissions, water pollutions from urban wastes and agriculture run off. These issues could affect the lives of people inhabited in France. France needs money to improve these environmental issues and make the lives of people in France less worry sum.  France is located in Western Europe, and has a number of territories in other places. Aside from having some of the world’s most well known sites they have 64,057,792 people. There natural resources are coal, iron ore, bauxite, zinc, uranium, antimony, arsenic, potash, feldspar, fluorspar, gypsum, timber, fish. The adult literacy rate is 99%. In 2007, France was ranked the first tourist destination in the world. France needs money to improve their country and maintain the beauty of the country. France has many tourists but can always have more.

Septemeber 12- second stage to the solution of space debris

September 12, 2008

(My other group members have completed questions 1,2,3,4,5)

6.  The people who gave us money will be well assured that their money went to good use. We will tell them the issue with space debris and how their money contributed to eliminating the scares of space junk.

7. The overall cost of this operation would be at a high price. Since tether satellites aren’t fully developed yet, we are unaware of the overall costs. I’m guessing the price is in the million dollar range for people to manufacture a satellite with a tether to launch into space. This product will hopefully demolish non functioning objects orbiting the earth with no purpose.

September 10: A Solution to Space Debris

September 10, 2008

The problem is space debris on the earth orbit. Tiny pieces of trash and non functioning satellites can impact other objects at high speed, damaging them. It caused by things in space not working and just laying out there with no purpose. It affects people by ruining global telecommunication and impacting spacecraft. it also poses a problem for astronauts on spacewalk. It can effect the people in space and area that have satellite based communication networks. This problem has been around since we started putting satellites in space just leaving them there. The problem is mostly the fault of businesses and nations who have put objects in orbit. This problem could be solved by de-orbiting the satellites. There has not been many solutions to this problem yet. I want to solve this problem because our satellite wastes are causing problems in space and could cause Kessler Syndrome which creates a higher risk of further impacts.

September 8, 2008- Search engines

September 8, 2008

1. Google, Yahoo, and Ask.com are all search engines.

2. The first website listed on Google was Slightlystoopid.com and with Yahoo i got the same first website. Ask.com i also got Slightlystoopid.com

3. From previous experience i have found Google and Ask.com to be good search engines. However i normally use Google. With searching the band i got most of the same results with each search engine, but Google seemed to have the most results.

4. Google- The first website listed on Barack Obama was BarackObama.com and it was his official presidential campaign website. Then when i searched Sarah Palin, i got image results for her, but the website under that was wikipedia on Sarah Palin. For the Rolling Stones i got Therollingstones.com which is their online official fan club. When i searched Britney Spears i got MLive.com which was a website talking about Britney Spears at the VMAs.  The first website that came up for Jazmine Sullivan was the link to her myspace page.

Yahoo- When searching Barack Obama on Yahoo, i got the same first website as i did with Google; Barackobama.com which is his presidential campaign website. For Sarah Palin i got Indecision2008.com which is some comedic website about Sarah Palin. When i searched The Rolling Stones i go t Therollingstones.com, the same as Google, and it is a fan club website. When looking up Britney Spears on Yahoo i got a different first result of a website then Google. The website was Worldofbritney.com and that website features blogs, currant pictures and is a fan site. Again for Jazmine Sullivan i got her myspace link.

Ask.com- When i searched for Barack Obama on Ask.com i also got his campaign website, barackobama.com. For Sarah Palin, a different website came up called JohnMcCain.com.Palin which tells you more about Sarah Palin and her role as vice president for John McCain. When i searched The Rolling Stones, i got Sfae.com which contains prints from San Fransisco Art Exchange. For Britney Spears i got website about Britney at the VMAs. The website was MTV.com/VMA. Unlike Google and Yahoo, when i searched Jazmine Sullivan, i got jazminesullivanmusic.com which allows you to listen to a new song she has.

5. The search results for Wikipedia on Yahoo, Google and Dogpile all give you the same results. The website that comes up is the wikipedia homepage and it gives you a variety of languages to operate the online encyclopedia. When i clicked on the link on Mr. Bjerke’s blog, i got the purpose of wikipedia, a definition of how and what the site does. I found that Yahoo, Google, and Dogpile all gave me the same results when searching wikipedia on those search engines.
